General Criteria Regardless of Athletics
• Proximity (live at home, drive more than an hour, fly to school)
• Location (what part of the US, urban or rural, big or small city)
• Type of Institution (Public versus Private, research vs teaching) • Size of the student population (how many students in a class)
• Academic programs (SA and Non-SA academic support system exists, who teaches the class)
• Admissions Criteria (open enrollment standards to selective)
• Cost (what’s the financial aid package for athletic and other aid)
• Campus Life (housing, meal plans, extracurricular activities)
Athletic Criteria
- • What association (NCAA DI DII DIII, NAIA, USCAA, NCCAA, ACCA, NJCAA)
- • Where does the program rank athletically (nationally, conference)
- • Coach and coaching staff (includes medical trainers and strength trainers)
- • Playing time requirements (play right away, sit for a couple of years, never play)
- • How important is volleyball within the Athletic Department (Financially - go to EADA to see what’s spent on volleyball)
- • What athletic facilities do they have (gym, locker rooms, weight room, etc.)
- • Graduation Success Rate and Academic Progress Rate (as opposed to the graduation rate) Resources
- • NCAA/NAIA eligibility Criteria (guide to the college-bound student-athlete both NCAA and NAIA)
